JOB DESCRIPTION

Wanita KaNgcobo www.wanitakangcobo.com is looking for a Sample Pattern maker for our Glenwood Studio. The Sample-pattern maker will develop the master size pattern in a wide range of sizes and designs that will be produced to create garments for that particular collection.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares samples & small run production for Women’s wear.

  • Will work as a pattern cutter as needed for some samples.

  • Respond to sewing needs for a variety of designers in a multi-designer sample room.

  • Must be responsive to designer’s needs. Meet seasonal objectives for patterns.

  • Responsible for completion of the master production pattern for various size ranges and design silhouettes.

  • Create patterns from design sketch (via manipulation of staple or adjustment of existing pattern) to achieve desired style and correct fit. 

  • Insure that each pattern is developed within the set standards of size, construction methods and pattern making quality standards.

  • Cut and sew first sample for designer’s approval and implement any and all changes or corrections to the pattern.

  • Create pattern piece listing for according to garment construction that represents the names and cutting information for each of the patterns in the design.

  • Check each pattern for accuracy throughout the process and quality of each pattern in accordance with Wanita KaNgcobo standards.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design, preferred or Minimum of 1-2 years pattern making experience. Experience making samples from scratch.

  • Thorough Knowledge of technical patternmaking and clothing construction.

  • Computer Aided Patternmaking skills a plus.

  • Valid South African working permit or South African Citizenship

SKILLS:  

  • Full knowledge of garment construction

  • Highly developed standards of excellence with garment execution.

  • Exceptionally organized and accurate.

  • Ability to work with luxury and innovative fabrics and leathers.

  • Creativity, Flexibility, adaptability, initiative, must be detail oriented and organized.

  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with a diverse population, as well as demonstrated sensitivity to cross cultural perspectives and experiences.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Wanita KaNgcobo www.wanitakangcobo.com is looking for three seamstresses for our Glenwood studio. 

Seamstress/Dressmakers create made-to-measure clothing such as dresses, skirts, trousers and blouses for their customers. You will be required to use an industrial machine for most of the sewing, but finish detailed work, such as beading or embroidery, by hand.Seamstress/Dressmakers will need to be able to imagine how a dress will look from the pattern design. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • giving advice on which combination of fabrics and patterns may give the best results

  • discussing the client's requirements with the head designer 

  • showing the client fabric samples and pattern books

  • taking measurements

  • adapting an existing pattern, or producing a new pattern for the client

  • tacking the fabric pieces together for a fitting

  • fitting the garment and making adjustments to create a perfect fit.

  • working out the cost of the work, taking into account the fabric, trimmings and time needed

  • using the pattern to cut out the fabric pieces

QUALIFICATIONS:

Although a degree is not necessary to become a dressmaker, individuals must possess strong sewing skills and an acute understanding of dress design and construction.

  • Minimum of 1-2 years garment construction (just know how to operate industrial flat, safety machines) making experience. 

  • Dressmakers study fashion trends, sketch designs of clothing, select various fabrics and implement or supervise the production of garments.

  • Valid South African working permit or South African Citizenship

SKILLS:  

  • Full knowledge of garment construction

  • Highly developed standards of excellence with garment execution.

  • Exceptionally organized and accurate.

  • Ability to work with luxury and innovative fabrics and leathers.

  • Creativity, Flexibility, adaptability, initiative, must be detail oriented and organized.

  • In addition to knowledge of sewing techniques, key skills also include attention to detail, creativity and the ability to communicate clearly with head designer

  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with a diverse population, as well as demonstrated sensitivity to cross cultural perspectives and experiences.
